Nan by Josh

Hello, I would like to tell you some stories about me and my Nan, I’ll try to keep it short and sweet like Nannie.

I can remember visiting my dad and nan on the weekends when I was younger. There was always something to do and I felt very lucky to spend so much with them. We would either spend the whole weekend out doing activities or we would rent videos from the shop and watch movies together.

I have very fond memories of spending what felt like every weekend at Wicksteed park. My nan certainly was not the kind of lady to stand and hold your coat whilst you enjoyed the rides. She had plenty of energy for a lady in her 70’s and was always up for enjoying the moment. I have been on every single ride at Wicksteed park with my Nan. There used to be a ride called the rotor, we would get in, there would be no harnesses or straps holding you in, it would spin around and the floor would drop and me and Nan would laugh so much. I think this was her favourite ride.

I can remember thinking how amazing my Nan is that she would go on rollercoasters with me. I certainly hope when I’m 75 I will enjoy roller coasters.

I have been to lots of places with my Nan, she always loved an adventure. Once we spent Christmas in Spain with Rosie. I remember this Christmas very well because I went Skiing for the first time.

We’ve been to so many coasts together. My Dad and Nan went to Whitby with me and Chelsea once as we just so happened to all be up North at the same time. We had a famous Magpies Fish and Chips, which Nannie loved. One weekend when I was younger, my Dad and Nan took me to about 4 different coasts on a little trip. I think she really loved being by the sea.

I fell off my friends bike once, really badly in Uppingham park. The bike was to big for me and I fell onto gravel, skidded and grazed my knee. Not only did it feel like I took my knee cap off, I fell in-front of group of lads lads playing a game of Rugby. I remember crying my eyes out in pain and embarrassment. All I can remember is wanting my Nan and as if by magic she appeared in-front of me at the park. She took me back home and patched me up. She was always there for me.

Nan would cook the best fry-up ever. Not only did we have all the usuals, she would make it extra British and serve it with chips. We would always cook and bake together, and I have some of the best recipes and techniques from her. She makes the best Yorkshire puddings, or as we like to call them, Pop-overs and the best cheese biscuits in the world. We all have a lot a passion for cooking because of her.

I have prepared some of Nannies cheese biscuits if any one would like to try.

My Nan was the kindest person I have ever known and she was always there for me. I always felt safe with her and I felt as though she was someone lots of people could rely on. Ive always felt that my Nan was a very popular woman.

Everyone who knew Nan, loved her and she will be hugely  missed, especially by me. Love you Nannie. xxx--
